Spent almost four days in Cebu to check out falls, hang out
at beaches and shoot century old churches but another highlight of this trip
was the Food trip I did when Cebu based PTB friends who are generous enough to
take their time off and accompanied me to my supposedly lonely-solo trip in the
queen city of the south.
I never thought that there are a lot of good restaurants in
this city, and three of those are concentrated at Cebu I.T. Park located at
Apas Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu city. The place reminded me of Nuvali here in
Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where BPO offices surround a cluster of restaurants that
offer customers a memorable meal with friends and family.
Appetizer
For starters, try the best chicharon in town, Carcar’s
Chicharon, a town an hour away from the city proper. The tempting smell and
mouth watering sight of this delicacy could sweep any visitor off his
feet.
The pork’s back fat is the best part to make a chicharon,
seasoned with salt and simmered in a hot oil until turned crispy, partnered it
with vinegar and you’re good to go.
Main Course
Larsian is a place lined with a number of barbeque stands
offering similar barbeque selections. They offer chicken – wings, thigh, skin,
breast, feet or intestine (isaw); pork – liver, chorizo, tocino, liempo,;
seafood – squid and fish; and siomai partnered with puso (hanging rice). It is
located at the uptown area near Fuente Osmeña and Chong Hua Hospital.
If barbeque is not for you, then try a dish Cebu is known
for: “Lechon Cebu”. I always go for CNT’s Lechon, although there are other
restaurants that claims and offers this particular dish, but I always go to
CNT, for me it’s already a “tried and tested” restaurant, so you can be sure
you will not go wrong if you decide to dine in here.
There are a number of branches of CNT in the city, when I’m
in Cebu I always go to the branch just next to SM City Cebu, but you can also
check out their branch at The Terraces mall.
Last but not the least is Casa Verde’s Baby Back Ribs, but
don’t be fooled with its name as these ribs are no baby. It’s huge enough to
serve two people. Casa Verde is also located in The Walk, I.T. Park
My eyes popped out when the waitress brought out our order.
It sometimes partnered with mashed potato or rice and carrots and corn.
Desserts
La Marea; Owned by Ed and Bernadette Gallego is the house of
the famous “Warm Brownie Cup” of Cebu. Considered them self as the premier
dessert place in the city.
Warm Brownie Cup is basically a chocolate brownie cake with
a fudgy and gooey texture, after warming it up in the oven, they will capped it
off with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that will melt instantly as it
hits the warm surface of the brownies.
Presently have three branches across Cebu City: The
Crossroads at Banilad, The Walk I.T. Park and at Paseo Arcenas. Open from 9 AM
– 12 AM. You may also check out other desserts on this site: http://kawalodesign.com/lamarea/index.htm
Another favorite of mine is Mango Sushi Crepe, just
neighbors with La Marea; East, West customers all time favorite is a rolled
mango crepe in a bed of mango-sago pearl sauce, served with vanilla ice cream
and drizzled with butterscotch sauce.
The moment it was served on our table, it only took a minute
to finish this heavenly dish, that’s how good it is. Same with La Marea, it is
open from 9 AM – 12 AM located in The Walk, I.T. Park.
Torta Bread from Argao is another must try, although torta
bread is found everywhere in the Cebu, Argao is the place of the best Torta in
the island. Torta is a round-cup cake bread; sweet, golden-brown with lightly
sugar sprinkled crust.
