After the parade and merry making that Sunday morning, six of us went to the central bus terminal in Davao city and hop on a bus that will pass by Brgy. Bato, Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur. Despite the fact that I never heard of this islet before makes me excited. Though we were warned by some locals that the place isn’t spectacular, we still went on with the plan, besides we’re not looking for the next Boracay, right? Two to three hours after, we reached Brgy. Bato, a signage erected near the hi-way is visible, no reason for you to miss it (but it also helps if you tell the driver that you need to be drop off at Brgy. Bato).
A good ten minute walk from the hi-way will lead you to the head quarters/registration area. A 15 php registration fee will be collected, plus the boat rental that will bring you to and fro the island. Walking along the foot bridge (that will lead you to the port) is already a site to be hold as lush green mangrove forest will welcome you. Speaks loudly of how Dabawenyos give importance of their environment.
The Islet

The whole Passig Islet is basically compose of sand (like the White Island of Camiguin and Naked Island of Siargao), what the locals did was create a man made protection around the islet to secure the sand from harsh waves and typhoons using tires piled up one after the other and pour in cements to last a lifetime. There are cottages for rent in the area that ranges from 500-150 php. There are no food stalls in the islet so better buy all your supplies at the city center before hand.

It was low tide when we got there, so we opted not to swim anymore and explore the island instead. I find the islet very family-oriented, a good place for your “barkada” to hang out, for family reunions or if one just want to escape the chaotic city. We saw a number of Star fish, sea grass are abundant and a school of small fishes.
We stayed there for two hours and then we head back to Davao city because one of us needs to catch a flight back to Manila the same day. The short but sweet stay in Passig Island made me ask for more…time to visit the island, swim during high tide and explore other islands near Davao city.

It's amazing how a few photos could trigger a ripple effect for people to visit a relatively unknown place and now that you posted this I'm sure its gonna do its own part in spreading the word.
Na feature na pala to sa Trip na Trip! :) Ang may-ari ata nito yung asawa ng governor ng davao del sur. :)
